Why choose natural materials?

EmiLime uses all natural materials as much as possible. This ensures that we are minimizing our environmental impact from start to finish. The materials we used are grown or raised naturally and are biodegradable. Our materials are of extreme importance to us and we have selected everything we use based on its impact and where it is from. The production process begins with where the materials are grown and created, and this leads to concerns such as natural versus synthetic products. To read more about this issue, check out our earlier blog entry on materialsWe source everything from Peru and Ecuador because of the high quality and also the closeness to the artisans who then make our products.

Importance of Handmade

When something is handmade, very likely the craft person is deliberate and mindful about that next right stitch or next right bead. Handmade products are more personal and of higher quality. You may think about who might have been the artisan and wonder at how they managed to produce the item of the moment that you are most smitten with and can't live without. Buying handmade means that you are supporting someone's passion. Even though you may not have been where the item is from, you feel a sense of community when receiving an item that travels from their hand to yours. EmiLime looks to strengthen the connection between the artist and the buyer, bring the world closer together through sustainable fashion. Not only does handmade mean "made with love", but buying a handmade item is one of the ways you can support a growing economic model. Buying handmade means that you are supporting the artisan directly and in turn you are also supporting the local community.  Buying from artisans is a conscious decision, and contributes to the bigger picture. Our Blog: The Conscionista

The term Conscionista is defined as “modern fashionista meets conscious consumer” and was created by Emily E. Green, owner designer and and founder of emiLime, in attempt to merge the words “conscious” and “fashionista” together. A Conscionista refers to a person fully aware of the greater world around them, challenged to make a difference and encouraging others to do the same. It is a person curious about the product being bought and the story behind it, while at the same time devoted to unique fashion. As the world begins to divert from mass-produced products and becomes more aware of the abuse mistreatment that some of these companies can have on its workers, fair trade is starting to emerge at lightning speeds become a requirement for many consumers as people want to be assured that there is fair trewant to be assured that there is fair treatment of everyone and everything involved in the making of their product. The fashion industry is particularly important because you have various factors that go into it. How the product is made, and who it is made by, is one of the most important aspects of the fashion industry.

Help us get better!

We try to make the best decisions as a business and as an earth inhabitant. One thing that we don't like right now is plastic bags. We re-use as much as possible, but we have not found an alternative yet. If you have any ideas on an eco-friendly bag that will keep on products fresh and clean, please let us know.

How the product is made, and who it is made by, is probably one of the most important aspects of the fashion industry regardless of whether or not you are wanting to be eco-friendly.
