emiLime at Columbus Circle Holiday Market!

There is almost nothing more festive than spending the holidays in New York City, amongst the Rockefeller Ice Skating Rink, the famous Christmas Tree, the not-so-cozy snow showers and the bustle of people cramming in last minute shopping. As we mentioned back in October, emiLime is excited to join this year’s Columbus Circle Holiday Market and has kept herself busy this week getting the booth all set-up.

Aside from our classic line of hats, scarves, gloves and wraps, founder and designer Emily E. Green will be onsite in the booth introducing a small collection of purses and horn jewelry. The bags are made from hand woven fabric that comes from the Northern part of Peru, combined with beautiful leather detailing. Our favorite purse is a twist of the popular “mochila” bag.

One of the biggest trends we’ll be seeing in 2012 is bold colors and textiles. Incorporating the tactile experience into any item is important because it is the key factor in finding the difference between handmade and machine-made products. Slight variations in the texture of the item – such as bumps, puffs, smoothness, or rough patches – can cause a reaction when the buyer is physically touching the merchandise. These are just some examples of the most prominent design trends seen in handmade products, used in the structure of emiLime accessories and made for the modern Conscionista.

If you are in New York during the holiday season, please make sure to stop by Columbus Circle and say hi! We are going to be offering exclusive products during this market and we'd love to meet you and get feedback on what you like most about emiLime's new accessories line.

emiLime at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market!

Amidst an economic state like the one we are facing today, the best technique for a vendor is to create a sense of urgency. Imagine how many more summer dresses would be sold if their absolute only availability would be from May 1st through the 5th? This may seem like a silly idea – what else would shops do with their time if they only sold things for five days at a time? Retailers, however, approached this scheme another way: what if shops existed for only a number of days and then poof! they were gone?

The concept of a “now you see it, now you don’t” store is commonly tied to a holiday theme, where companies can sell their products while they’re still relevant, then get up and go when the season is over. However, a holiday excuse is not always the case. Coined “pop-up stores,” these up-and-coming sensations open up at empty retail locations for a few days (or weeks) in a major city, or a mall, with great fanfare. Some examples include: Target, who opened up a store in lower Manhattan to display the upscale design line Proenza Schouler at discount prices, and Nike, who “popped up” in Soho to sell special edition basketball shoes inspired by LeBron James.

emiLime is going to become a part of this innovative occasion during the Columbus Circle Holiday Market this holiday season. Unlike the pop-up stores mentioned earlier, this is one of the few instances where the merchandise is available for a longer period of time: from November 23 through December 24. This holiday market is designed after Northern European markets, where public squares and plazas become filled with colorful booths selling holiday gifts from around the world. Centrally located at the intersection of Columbus Circle and Central Park Ave., the market will draw the attention of thousands of locals and tourists alike.

The Columber Circle Holiday Market is made possible by Urban Space, a leading developer and manager of specialty retail markets in both the U.S. and UK. They profess to find the best in designers, chefs and boutiques, therefore emiLime finds it a compliment to have been accepted!
